There's
been some confusion and difficulties in installing the wide
variety of enhancements available .. even when the mod maker
has made the installation *easy* , often uninstalling to restore
the stock game and/or add a different enhancement can prove
problematic. Conflicts can occur between SinglePlay mod and
MultiPlay files
Thankfully
, harddrive size has grown, and multiple installs of Red Baron
3D are feasible as a solution.
First
, make a new folder on your computer for files you will be
downloading , on my computer , it's "C:\GameArchives\RedBaronArchives",
with subfolders categorizing "UOPs" , "PaintZips"
and such . as you acquire them.
|
If
you already have RedBaron3D installed, and want to start
*fresh* ( yet preserve custom files for possible reinstall
and use ) , you can simply rename your 'SIERRA' folder.
As you can see, I have an older "SIERRAb"
Renaming folders is the easy *secret* to swapping from
one enhanced RedBaron3D mod to another.

Red
Baron II CD needs
rb3d_spr.exe
to upgrade to Red Baron 3D, however like many software upgrades,
the full RB3D CD version is preferred. For the rest of this
install section, "RedBaron3D" = "RedBaronII"
for Red Baron II CD owners.
For
Red
Baron 3D CD
, download rb3d1078.exe
, the official patch for the latest version, essential
for MMP play.
If
when you insert the CD, it doesn't autorun ,
browse in Windows Explorer to your CD reader , and
double-click the SETUP.EXE shown, to start the installation.
|
|
When you get to the "Select Setup
Size" screen , choose Large
install.
When finished , Start SinglePlay , set your Graphics Preferences
(be sure to check "Custom" textures) , then Fly
Now to be sure the stock game is running , do the same with
Multiplay , setting Graphics Preferences separately , and fly
Solo.
Exit the game , REBOOT your computer
before proceeding
Browse again to your RedBaron3D CD, and COPY
the Video folder
|
...then browse up to your new install and PASTE
the Video folder into 'Data' |
Now , COPY the Server folder |
and PASTE into RedBaron3D folder |
If you have RedBaronII CD installed, now
is the time to install rb3d_spr.exe and reboot your computer
. Then download and install rb3d_svr.exe
, being sure the Server folder ends up as shown above (except)
in your RedBaronII folder. For either RedBaronII or RedBaron3D
installs:
Now find your copy of rb3d_1078.exe
and install it .. reboot your computer
You may want to test MMP online at this point as well.
You now have a *clean* and full RedBaron3D
install
COPY
your RedBaron3D folder,
and PASTE a few copies back
into your SIERRA folder.

RENAME
the RedBaron3D folder copies for each custom set-up
you are planning to install. I name the original
with a '0(zero)' in front , and make future copies from
that.
To
install any UOP or other custom files , you'll rename
the designated folder back to "RedBaron3D",
then install the mod(s).
In
this example , I'm taking my *clean* "RedBaron3DFCJ"
folder , renaming back to "RedBaron3D" , and
installing Full Canvas Jacket CD. When I'm done flying
around in Full Canvas Jacket , I can just rename to
"RedBaron3DFCJ" again , rename another set
up to "RedBaron3D" and play that mod. Switching
between any set-up can now be done in seconds !
