The PYOD scouts below have now been included on the 4 Aerocraft
models collection along with 27 new PYOD
version 2-seaters , bombers and alternative scouts !:)
Struts
, pilot/gunner bodies , guns and tailskids on RB's aerocraft are
normally assigned a unshading solid color, 'palleted' or 'RGB'
value 'material'
Von Tom discovered that by assigning the FUS texture to a strut
material , the upper left single pixel of a fuselage .bmp controls
the color of the strut part , and they will have the same shading
properties as painted parts .'FUS' assignment in the .dml calls
up whatever fuselage bmp an aerocraft's scheme has , whether an
03xx00zz type from UOPs , or the name in a paint .cfg file.
This
means you can easily paint those strut parts to match your MP
Paint schemes using PYOD model files. This
pixel never displays on your plane's fuselage tho , as it 'wraps'
above the cowling shape.
I
then made a new texture type , a small 4 x 4 pixel solid color
"pixxx.bmp" and replaced the palleted pilot/gunner material
with these textures using names like 'piDr1' ,'piN24' , etc. for
each plane type.This
resulted in a properly shading pilot body , easily paintable by
the player for each PYOD plane type.
Beyond
that , each plane type has it's own propxx02.bmp assigned , rather
than the one prop0000.bmp for all planes
in stock form , which can be repainted for unique external view
props.I have renamed custom engine graphics from the originally
used 'xxgrillxx' type names to 'eng1Sop' and 'eng2Nup' type names
, repainted those graphics , and increased the variety from model
to model , so you can have a Le Rhone graphic on early planes
, Clerget on later rotaries .
Most
player made aerocraft models now use PYOD techniques to paint
pilot - gunner bodies and other small parts.
